And Gary finds out his new body isn't exactly human It is a hot July day in Millville , and Gary Lutz is alone in his backyard when he hears a buzzing sound. Gary assumes that one of Mr. Andretti's bees escaped. Andretti, Gary's neighbor, is a beekeeper. Gary peers into Mr. Andretti's backyard, and he discovers that Mr. Andretti is covered in bees. Andretti screams that the bees are out of control, which frightens Gary.

After a few moments, Mr. Andretti admits that he was only joking. Gary is regularly only bullied by other kids, so he is upset that adults are now picking on him. Gary goes and plays softball with some local kids, but he embarrasses himself with his own poor playing. He goes home, and he's beat up by three local bullies. After a short while Gary, Gary goes bike riding. Gary tries to impress two girls from his school, but he crashes his bike. Disappointed, Gary goes home and begins playing on his computer.

Gary consults a forum in the hopes of beating a villain in a video game he plays. Gary sees an advertisement that advertises something strange: vacations from your life! The company claims that they can help their customers switch bodies with someone else for a week.

The next day, Gary walks to the address stated in the advertisement. There, Gary finds a plain building. Inside, he meets an employee of the company.

The woman explains that the company, Person-to-Person Vacations, can help him switch minds with another kids his age. The woman, Ms. Karmen, takes Gary's photo, and she tells him that she add it to the company's catalog. When another kids wants to trade places with him, Gary will receive a call.

I don't have an issue with bees. Maybe the reason I don't is because this book taught me that bees may actually be bullied teenagers going through a rough patch.

I do seem to always feel sorry for the ones who have lost their stingers Oct 08, Jayme rated it really liked it Shelves: america , fantasy , horror , middle-grade. This is the only Goosebumps book I can clearly remember reading. It was pretty awesome. About a boy who becomes a bee in case you couldn't figure that out from the cover. And apparently, even when I was 10 I still thought bees were cool.

Feb 26, Ryan Hixson rated it liked it. Why I'm Afraid of Bees by R. Stine is Goosebumps book number 17 in the original order. This book is filled with bees the first sentence warns. The story is a take on The Fly meets It's a Wonderful Life where two people try to switch bodies but a bee gets in the mix. This story is the most twilight zone like, and the only Goosebumps book with a truly happy ending. The story is pretty focused the jump scares are rare and not too bad when happen.

The story sometimes felt a bit too informational, and not enough about the scares. This story has a little elements of horror, but more science fiction than horror. He wants a change. Gary gets the opportunity of a life time, the chance to switch bodies with a cooler kid in the same grade Dirk Davis. The experiment was going perfect until a bee got in the way, the Dirk Davis becomes Gary, Gary becomes a bee, and the bee is in the mind of Dirk Davis.

Gary want the experiment over, but Dirk doesn't want to switch. What's Gary to do become a bee the rest of his life,? Or do something drastic to his own body? What I Liked: This book flows pretty well, not to many boring parts. The bee puns are bad but funny bad. I like the only way Gary can speak mostly through microphones. I love the character who runs Person to Person, body switching store. The ending was happy, yet still pretty perfect for this story. I loved the way the Bee acted in Dirk's body.

What I Disliked: When Gary is a Bee amongst the hive, it wasn't scary, it felt like an old animal documentary that is really corny and not all that interesting. Recommendations: There's some okay moments but the story overall I can not recommend. It is not the worst but far from the best. I'm not afraid of bees and maybe people who are would enjoy this story a more.

Stine 3 out of 5 stars. Oct 03, Alex findingmontauk1 rated it really liked it Shelves: owned. A solid lesson hidden beneath the story here about appreciating what you have while you have it. Blah, I am so sick that I decided to take today off. With nothing to really do, I also decided to open an early present, which turned out to be five Goosebumps books!

What a great way to spend all day in bed when sick! I rate "Why I'm Afraid of Bees" 4 stars. Dec 31, Highness Atharva rated it it was ok. She soon arrives and Gary tells her to just make herself at home and he would be down to see her when he finishes his hair. When he does come down, Ms. Karmen informs Gary that she has found someone, a muscular skateboarder named Dirk.

Who was willing to switch with Gary, who wishes to switch places with him so that he can improve his math. Gary agrees and Ms. Karmen begins to set up her e er, she gives Gary a call and she asks to come over, which Gary sees no problem with as nobody else is home.

Karmen begins to set up her equipment for the two boys. Unknown to them all, a bee flew into the room Karmen activates the switching process shortly after and it is a success! For Dirk only Gary however After many bee oriented adventures, Gary soon puts to use the little amount of knowledge he has gained on bees from the book he read sometime while back.

And he uses it to help himself out of a few sticky situations. Eventually, Gary flies back to the Vacation office and tries to use the microphone to plead for his body back.

The receptionist tells him just to go back to the hive and wait the week out Fortunately, Gary has gotten a quick peak at Dirk's address and he goes to see Dirk, whose body was occupied by the bee that Gary is inside. He spots Bee-Dirk in Dirk's backyard trying to lick pollen from flowers. Bee-Dirk tries to then kill Gary, until the bee boy then flies home. He tries to type a message on his computer but it does not work and he goes to see the real Dirk, who is in Gary still and speaks with him.

He can hear him just fine, but refuses to return to his body. He has been changing Gary from a total wimp, like giving skateboard lessons to Judy and her friends in the park. And also beating up the trio of bullies, and even befriends Claus the cat!

Very frustrated, Gary flies back to the hive. He rounds up the other bees and leads the swarm into his bedroom, where Dirk is. Dirk is not the least bit frightened, which Gary had hoped he would be and so, Gary tries the ultimate resort. Remembering that bees die without their stingers, he stings Dirk's body in the nose.

Upon doing so, he then falls to the floor and blackens out Waking up sometime later, Gary sees that he has returned to his normal body. It is revealed that upon doing this and dying, he was returned to his body automatically.

Only his bee body had died. Dirk was also returned to his normal body and he proceeds to apologize to Gary for hogging his body the way he did. The book ends as Gary releases the many bees from his room while opening the window..

Gary has been adjusting very well to the many positive changes that Dirk had imprinted into his life. This was the first chapter book I ever read. I had always been behind in my classes reading-wise, til my older brother unknowingly motivated me to want to read big kid books-Goosebumps to be exact.

It took me the entire day after school to read only stopping to eat a tuna fish sandwich made by my mom , but I read this book in one day in second grade. I was so proud and happy. This book taught me the wonders and gift of reading, though certainly not known to me at the time. His only friend is his computer. Even his little sister doesn't like him. But now Gary's dream is about to come true. He's going to exchange bodies with another kid for a whole week.

Gary can't wait to get a new body. Until something horrible happens. And Gary finds out his new body isn't exactly human.
